Vintage cast metal cable car coin bank made by Banthrico, Inc. of Chicago and issued by Citizens Federal Savings to mark its 75th anniversary. The stepped base is cast across the front with CITIZENS FEDERAL SAVINGS. The painted plate on the underside reads Citizens Federal Savings, San Francisco, Oakland, Palo Alto, 75th Anniversary, 1885-1960, and the coin trap is stamped BANTHRICO, INC. CHICAGO, U.S.A.
The car is modeled with passenger figures in relief across both sides and both ends, a standing figure at the center doorway, window and panel detail throughout, and wheels below the body. The coin slot is set into the raised section of the roof. The finish is copper-toned and has darkened with age, with brighter copper showing on raised edges and high points.
Measures approximately 5 1/4 inches long by 2 1/4 inches deep by 3 inches tall. A compact display piece for collectors of Banthrico banks, San Francisco memorabilia, or bank and savings advertising.
Item is used with wear consistent with age. No key is included. The bank is empty. The plate on the underside has rust and oxidation spotting across much of its surface. There are fine scratches and scuffs on the roof, sides and base, several small green-toned spots on the roof, and a few light-colored specks along the lower edge of one side.
