Vtg H. DISSTON & SONS, PHILA., PA No. 4 Steel-Spine 12" Dovetail Back Saw, 1950s For Sale

Here we have aVintage H. DISSTON & SONS, PHILA., PA No. 4 Steel-Spine 12" Dovetail Back Saw, Early 1950s.A young Henry Disston began his career as an Americansawmaker in Philadelphia. He had immigrated from England in 1833 and startedmaking saws and squares in 1840. In 1850, he founded the company that wouldbecome the largest sawmaker in the world: the Keystone Saw Works. The company manufactured excellent saws untilbeing sold in 1955. The steel spine is marked by the maker. It is also still retains a faint etching on the blade.

This isa 12" Back Saw with thick and heavySteel Spineused primarily for cutting dovetails or tenons. The crosscut blade on this saw is in good 'used tool' condition with stains on the blade.Good 'used tool' condition with small area of corrosion on approx. 6 teeth (just below the handle). Previous owner hammered a rivet into the Medallion screw ?? There is a sort tight crack on the front edge of the left side of the handle.I don't see any broken or chipped teeth.Blade is sharp but could use a sharpening.The closed-style handle some minor nicks and dings and the crack noted above. The handle is tightly attached to the blade. The horns are full length.Nice straight blade. This saw appears to be a 14 tpimodel. Overall sawlength is approx. 17". There is an owners mark on the left side near the front saw nut.Please review the pics to confirm condition !!
