Geisha Lady & Samurai Man
The level of detail on each of these panels is magnificent- very tiny, minute hand carved details on the robes, the hair, the faces- the Geisha lady\'s robe has no less than SIX different patterns in different areas and the carving representing her robe looks realistic and natural, as if it is flowing.
The pieces are meant to be placed with the lady on the left and the man on the right, when placed as such, they absolutely do appear to be gazing at each other
The background has been carefully carved back to show the natural bamboo color and texture, with a very pretty curved \'framed\' border effect around the edges
Excellent condition- NO damage to either piece. No nicks chips scratches damage splintering fading or repair. Pristine. There is some slight rubbing near the top of each panel normal for age, well away from the artwork- very minor
Magnificent hand carved and hand painted genuine Japanese natural bamboo panels. Each piece has its original satin grosgrain ribbon which acts as a hanger at top, ready to hang. Ribbons are hand dyed the exact shade of the bamboo behind them, so as not to distract. The panels each have 2 shallow feet at the base, they can be leaned upright if not hanging.
Elaborate Artist\'s signature and chop mark on each. The same artist did each work of Art. Signatures are actually hand carved into the bamboo, then inked.
This is a stunning set, very special- fabulous for a collector. A showstopper.
The quality on these is truly \'the best of the best\'- the level of Artistry is very fine and these are NOT the crudely made export pieces so often available for purchase.
These would have originally meant to have been given as treasured wedding gifts in a prosperous household as a symbol of a strong and happy future together
