WW2 Polish LVG C.VI airplane in flight 1930s - c1940s Photo For Sale

A 4.5x2.5" vintage photo from a huge collection of 1940's plane prints that we acquired from the estate of an aviation buff (and pilot) named Gene Mutter who lived in Southern California.

Photo Overview

The LVG C.VI was a German World War 1 reconnaissance and artillery-spotting airplane; after the war, surviving airframes were used and license-built by Poland, where they served into the early 1930s as the young Polish Air Force was being established. The Polish checkerboard national marking seen on the tail became one of the most recognizable European roundels and is still used in modernized form today, making this a visually important link between early and later Polish military aviation. Print analysis:
Printed on single-weight photographic paper with professional back stamps from Aeroplane Photo Supply of Toronto, a known mid-20th-century aviation photo distributor. The subject is a Polish-operated LVG C.VI from the interwar era, but the commercial aviation-collector printing, style of type, and paper tone indicate a later reprint, consistent with the 1940s printing date noted for this collection. As such it is a Type 2 photograph: made from an original or first-generation negative more than a few years after the image was taken, likely c1940s.
