Original WWI-era portrait photograph of U.S. Army soldier Jesse B. Litten, housed in its original Loar & Co., Wheeling, W.Va. photographer's folder. The soldier's name is handwritten in pencil on the back of the folder — a rare find, as most period portraits are unidentified.

Provenance note: Research suggests Jesse B. Litten is likely a relative of the celebrated "Litten brothers" — seven sons of Carl and Elizabeth Litten of Flushing, Ohio, who all served in the U.S. Air Force for a combined 137 years (1951–1989) and were honored with a memorial bench at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in 2021 (dedicated July 20, 2021). The family connection is plausible based on the uncommon surname and geography (Flushing, OH is about 20 miles from Wheeling, WV) but has not been conclusively documented — please examine the photos and do your own research.
