Weil Ware California Pottery Country Girl Vintage 8 1/2" Double Planter Vase 1946-1955

ITEM DESCRIPTION

This vintage Weil Ware California Pottery Country Girl Double Planter Vase is in Excellent Vintage Condition with No Chips No Cracks. NOTE: There is Natural Crazing Throughout consistent with the age of the piece. Produced by Weil Ware of California between approximately 1946 and 1955, this charming figural planter measures approximately 8 1/2" tall.

The piece depicts a lovely country girl dressed in a full flowing gown and wearing a traditional head scarf. She stands with her arms gracefully extended to either side, incorporating two rectangular planter openings into the design.

Her dress is finished in a warm creamy ivory glaze with soft pink accents around the neckline and lower skirt. Delicate floral decoration in shades of blue, green, pink, and brown embellishes the bodice and sweeping skirt, while a hand-painted brown ribbon detail accents her waist.

The girl's face is beautifully hand painted with blue eyes, arched brows, rosy cheeks, and deep red lips. Her blonde hair is partially covered by the coordinating head scarf, giving her a wonderful mid-century country-girl appearance.

The underside bears the distinctive WEIL WARE MADE IN CALIFORNIA mark featuring the company's burro logo.

PATTERN & DESIGN

This wonderful Country Girl Double Planter is a charming example of the decorative figural pottery produced by Weil Ware in California during the postwar period.

The design cleverly incorporates two separate planter openings into the figure, one positioned beneath each of the girl's outstretched arms. Her wide flowing skirt forms the central sculptural body of the piece and provides a large surface for the elaborate hand-painted decoration.

Particularly attractive are the soft pink borders and delicate floral motifs decorating the bodice and skirt. The combination of the creamy ivory glaze, pastel colors, expressive hand-painted face, full skirt, and unusual double-planter construction gives the piece a distinctive 1940s-1950s California pottery appearance.

The recognizable Weil Ware burro backstamp and substantial 8 1/2" size make this an especially appealing example of vintage California figural pottery.
