Vintage real photo postcard showing a monument associated with Wild Bill Hickok at Deadwood, South Dakota. The manuscript-style caption printed on the image reads: “First Monument of Wild Bill / Shot in Deadwood / Aug. 2, 1876.”
The image depicts a standing figure of Wild Bill Hickok holding a pistol, photographed in front of a dark background or building surface. The subject relates to James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok, an Old West lawman, scout, gambler, and gunfighter who was shot and killed in Deadwood on August 2, 1876.
The reverse is unused and marked “The L. L. Cook Co., Milwaukee” along the center divider. The stamp box is EKC style, dating the postcard itself to approximately c. 1939–1950. Although the front caption references 1876, this is a later vintage real photo postcard issue depicting an earlier Wild Bill Hickok monument.
