Wonderful Very Early, LARGE Original Antique Tin Candle Mold, 12 Tube Size for 12 Candles, c.1790, Made by Early Tinsmith
DESCRIPTION:Scans show it all.....a particularly nice, very early, c. 1780 - 1790 tin candle mold, with original handle. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL COLONIAL ITEM AND NOT A REPRODUCTION AS OFTEN SEEN ON .Very large, having 12 "tubes" to make 12 candles at a time. These were quite an improvement and time saver over individually hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in 1700's money and not too common.
It stands about 10 1/2" tall x 3" x 9" wide from one side to another. It has a rectangular top, made to hold the tubes in place and facilitate "damming" the wax and keeping it from spilling over. At the base the tubes are held in place by a similar rectangular bottom. Each tube is about 7/8" diameter. THIS STILL HAS ITS HANDLE, WHICH IS UNCOMMON.
A VERY TALL, STURDY, AND LARGE 12 TUBE MOLD,HANDMADE OUT OF HEAVY TIN PLATE MATERIAL BY AN EARLY NEW ENGLAND TINSMITH. Looks very good for its age and is in nice, very good antique condition overall. Nice aged tin patina.
Nice early item from a fine early Massachusetts estate. 225+ YEARS OLD!!! Great original colonial decoration item for a mantle/shelf or in a kitchen display.
