It is a brown leather ankle boot with a leather sole which was studded with metal studs.It is distinctive due to its square toe shape.
The B5 boot was used throughout the Great War (from 1914) by the British Army including the BEF and Kitchener's Army so was worn at all the major battles of WW1 like the Somme.
