This magnificent extra large solid brass lidded ginger jar urn by Gatco is an unquestionable statement piece!
Standing a commanding 14 inches tall and 7 inches wide, this weighty jar strikes the ideal balance between sculptural grandeur and everyday displayability. The body swells into a generous rounded form before narrowing to a gracefully flared neck, and the domed lid is crowned with a pointed brass finial that gives it a regal quality. The surface is smooth, unadorned, and glowing with the deep, warm golden tone that only solid brass achieves.
Stickered on the base with the authentic Gatco "Solid Brass" label, this piece dates to the 1970s, the golden era of American brass collecting, when imported Indian brasswork was finding its way into the most fashionable interiors across the country.
In your home, this urn reads as an anchor piece. Set it on a mantle as the centerpiece of a curated vignette. Tuck it into a bookshelf between leather-bound volumes and trailing greenery. The vase is in excellent vintage condition with no cracks or major denting noted. It has a gorgeous patina and minor age-appropriate wear consistent with a well-loved antique. Please see photographs for examples.
The overall height of the vase is about 14". The opening diameter is 3.5" before curving back out to about 7" at its widest point. The base is 4" diameter.
