LOT OF1 VINTAGE COMIC BOOK: YELLOWJACKET COMICS#7 From Late 1945 As The January,1946 Anthology From Charlton Comics. Scarce, Boasting A Horrific Classic Skull Cover, And It Definitely Pre-Dates "Eerie Comics" #1, Which Has Long Been Credited (And Coveted) For Being The First Horror Comic. This Obscure Part-Horror Issue Features The Lengthy Story "Tales Of Terror" About An Avenging Hand, With An Old Witch As The Wisecracking Horror-Host. Note That Years Later, EC Comics Would Copy BOTH The Old Witch Host, And The Title For Their Line Of Horror Annuals, Proving This IS An Archetypical Key Issue For The Horror Completist. (NOT TO MENTION FOR ANY SKULL COVER COLLECTOR!)Other Tales Feature Heroics, War, And Other Themes. Of Course, In A Couple Years, The Original Eerie Comics One-Shot Was Released, With Pure Horror Content. Then, Several Years After This, Comics Such As "Adventures Into The Unknown" Started Coming Out In America Leading To "Eerie" #1 And "Marvel Tales" #93 And Many Other Scary Issues And Titles During The Infamous Pre-Code Horror Craze. But It Appears It Was THIS Sleeper Small Press Comic-Book That Started It All. This Mid-Forties Single Issue Features Mature Content Including Mysterious Stories By The Respected Alex Toth, Alan Mandel, Burton Geller, And Ken Battefield.The Pre-Code Horror/Sci-Fi Craze Was Still Years Away, But This Overlooked 1-Shot Was The Prototypical Debut Of The Entire Genre Including An Ancient Witch As The Wisecracking Host! It Does Have Salacious Shocking Content And GGA And Lurid Supernatural Themes. THE EARLY PRE-CODE HORROR COMICS OF THE FORTIES ARE OFTEN OVERLOOKED BY NOVICE COLLECTORS, BUTMANY FROM THIS HAYCYON PERIOD HAVE BECOME EXPENSIVE IN RECENT YEARS, AND OTHERS LIKE THIS PROBABLY WON'T REMAIN AFFORDABLE FOR MUCH LONGER, SO DON'T MISS THIS FLEETING OPPORTUNITY. The Mystery, Fantasy, Shock, Superstition, Ghost And Supernatural Themes Never Go Out Of Style! This hails from a dark, dry, pet-free, non-smoking, climate-controlled environment. It is a flat, bright, glossy copy, that looks nice in the Mylar sleeve, butthe cover exhibits a hint of general wear, including corner flaws, mild creasing, and a bit of discoloration to the spine area. The innards are unmolested, no long creases, rips, severe foxing, dog-ears, writing or other signs of past use, and they are a clean supple cream to off-white except for some water stains to the spine area, affecting the cover and first page. The back cover exhibits spine wear and one light corner crease and a couple small stains by the spine, and chipping to the top corner of the spine along with some spots of diminished gloss. If it's admired in the protective archival Mylar sleeve it presents very well, but the various minor flaws make it better to keep available to the fans that want to actually flip through and read and/or smell and enjoy it in it's natural state, rather than encapsulating it and possibly driving another would-be collector or reader towards the reprint digital format or the fake 'replica' formats.
