For sale is a c1900s undivided back real photo postcard featuring a dramatic historical painting by Vasily Volkov. It depicts the powerful Tsar Peter the Great visiting the shackled Hetman Pavlo Polubotok in a dark cell within the Peter and Paul Fortress in 1724.
This scene captures the intense confrontation between the Russian Empire and Ukrainian autonomy. Polubotok was imprisoned for defending Cossack rights and died in captivity shortly after this meeting. The artwork is a significant piece of Russian and Ukrainian history.
