vintage SETH THOMAS Baxter-E electric mantle clock, c.1956—good cond—runs well For Sale

Offered for your consideration is a vintage SETH THOMAS Model No. E029-000 BAXTER-E electronic mantle clock, USA-manufactured c.1956. This mid-century clock has a case that’s 8½” wide by 4¼” tall by 2¼” deep, as measured from the base, and is made from genuine hardwood with gold-plated metal trim and a durable, gently-curved Lucite is no date code on the case back, and no visible markings inside the case or on the movement (as found on late 1940’s BAXTER clocks). This leads me to believe that this clock was made after SETH THOMAS began to import movements from Germany in 1955.

This SETH THOMAS BAXTER-E clock is in clean, good condition. The wood case looks nice with no chips, dents, or deep scratches, but does have a number of small blemishes from the decades. Also, some flecks of the gold-plated trim expose the underlying base metal, as pictured. Plus, the clear plastic crystal has no cracks or noted scratches, just some typical light scuffs from being cleaned over the years.

In addition, the rectangular dial looks great with its silver outer chapter and cream center, featuring black Roman numeral markers, black hour/minute hands, and a gold-tone sweep seconds hand. No blemishes were noted on the dial. Also, the power cord is in nice shape; pliable, with no flaws, and 58” long if memory serves correctly. And there’s a brown felt pad affixed to the underside so as to not mar any surface that the clock is placed on. Overall, this classic SETH THOMAS powered mantle clock presents quite nicely.

Most importantly, the clock, that I acquired recently, is running well and more accurately than expected. In my testing, I\'ve observed variation no greater than +/- five seconds every 24 hours. If it maintains that stable pace, it’s on track to gain or lose a minute, or so, per month.

Nevertheless, due to its age, no performance guarantee can be made here. The clock’s movement could surely use a looking-over and some lubrication, but the accuracy I’ve observed is fairly impressive from a 70 year-old clock with no evident servicing.
