Antique DAR Statue Madonna of the Trail Pioneer Mothers Covered Wagon DaysThis Madonna of the Trail Sculpture or Marquette is made of an unknown metal - bronze, white metal or possibly silver? It stands about 8 ¾ inches tall and 3 ½ inches square at the base. The sculpture has beautiful detail of a Pioneer Mother with two small children. One child is clinging to her dress while she is holding a gun. She is holding another small child in the other arm. The family is walking through the prairie and the border of the flowers and grass do a great job depicting the scenery. For the age of this piece it appears to be in nice condition and could probably use a little cleaning or polishing.The front of the sculpture is marked on the front, Madonna of the Trail, N.S.D.A.R. Memorial to rhe Pioneer Mothers of the Covered Wagon Days. The back side is marked The National Old Trails Road. The base at the bottom is marked with "C.R. 1928" inside a circle. The two sides list six states each (side one Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California; side two Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois).
