Dorothy Gutfeld Modernist Silverplated Menorah, 7 Candles, Read Description For Sale

Modernist Menorah designed by Dorothy Gutfeld.  This piece was originally made for 9 candles but the front half-circular arch has been removed probably so it could be used at Temple. There are 7 candle holders in mine.  Dorothy Gutfeld stamped at base. It is silver plated. It is in very good condition.  See photos for additional details.

The original design was part of an exhibition held at B'nai B'rith Klutznick Museum (Oct. 6 1987 - Jan. 31, 1988).  Below is the description as written by Renee Goldin: "In terms of elegance, Dorothy Gutfeld has produced a Chanukah menorah in silver-plated brass that exemplifies that term. It consists of five descending half-circular arches of equal height, of substantial metal sheet, in successive back-to-front orientation, capped with tubular candleholders. The shamash, or servant, is centered upon the rear plate, the four other plates bear pairs of candleholders, one to each side. This is the ultimate menorah form in terms of a minimalist Bauhaus expression. Though some might curse the very wax that dares to drip upon this surface, and others will think that the austerity of this design compromises its warmth, this Platonic ideal of a Chanukah candelabrum is to my thinking a spectacular piece."
