Here is the last of my collection of Remington Arms documents signed by founder, Eliphalet Remington and his son, Eliphalet III. First we have a check signed by Eliphalet Remington III on April 11th, 1853, drawn on the Ilion Bank. The check was written to a C.W. Carpenter for $24.33. It is endorsed on the back by Carpenter. I have traced C.W. Carpenter back to Ilion NY. I believe he was the founder of the volunteer fire department there in 1864.
The second document is a promissory note dated March 31st, 1860 for $76.75 (or close to $2,700 in 2023 money). This was a 60 day loan payable to Eliphalet Remington. Strong Remington signature on the back of the promissory note.
I've sold a few of these over the past 15 or so years. I see some of them popping back up for resale now.
