BACKGROUND: Rashida Muhammad, also known as Dessie Woods, was a feministactivist in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment after killing Ronnie Horne with his own gun after he attempted to rape her. Her case gained national attention, leading to the gathering of activists in Atlanta, Georgia as well as another gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area. After having spent five years in prison, shewas acquitted on appeal and released.
