(Northwest Africa)
Purchased: 2013 Dec
Classification: Primitive achondrite (Lodranite)
History: Purchased by Marcin Cimała in December 2013 from a dealer in Ouarzazate, Morocco.
Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner,UWS) Matrix-poor breccia composed mainly of angular mineral grains (including bright green clinopyroxene) and sparse stained metal. Minerals are olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, stained kamacite, troilite and chromite.
Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa11.7-11..8; FeO/MnO = 27-30), orthopyroxene (Fs10.5-10.7Wo4.9-4.0; FeO/MnO = 16), clinopyroxene (Fs5.0-5.7Wo43.8-44.6; FeO/MnO = 10-15). Oxygen isotopes (K. Ziegler,UNM): analyses of acid-washed subsamples by laser fluorination gave, respectively δ17O = 0.345, -0.184, -0.220, δ18O = 2.428, 2.359, 2.221, Δ17O = -0.937, -1.430, -1.393 per mil (for a TFL slope of 0.528).
Classification: Lodranite breccia. This material is likely paired withNWA 8118andNWA 8216.
Specimens: 20.2 g including a polished thin section atUWB. The remainder is held by Mr. M. Cimała.
