The mid 1920's was a time in Ameri- ca, in fact the world, that witnessed an explosion in second generation everything in transportation. Cars, planes, ships and trains. While Henry Ford's engineers were drafting Model "A"s and trimotors up in Dearborn, motive power men in New York City and Schenectady were finalizing plans for a new steam passenger engine. All ef- forts were eminently successful and this book is the story of the birth and life of that locomotive. It was officially born on Feb. 14, 1927. In all 275 were built. They raced across the populous northeastern quarter of Amer- ica for the next three decades hauling the most famous limiteds. They were beautiful, they were fast, and easily held claim to the most famous class of steam locomotive in the world. They were called Hudsons.

This comes from the V.L. Smith Collection. Former head of engineering for BRC.
