Spathae have been known since Roman times and were later adapted by Germans who improved them according to their needs. A Sparta is a thrust sword with a broad, double-edged, straight blade that was used as a one-handed weapon.

Our reconstruction follows a Spatha as used in the Germanic settlement area from the 1st to the 6th century, the so-called migration period or period of barbaric invasions. The blade is hand-forged with high quality spring steel and heat treated to approx. hardness of about 48 Rockwell. The blade has a distinctive padding that offers flexibility and less weight. The edges of this medieval sword are dull and the tip is rounded for added safety.
Both the knob and the guard are made of riveted brass sheets, which surround an inner sheet of cow horn. The handle is made of wood, brass and horn.

The delivery includes a matched wooden sheath wrapped in leather with brass mound and sword category: SK-B.
