This is a gorgeous rarewing or bowtie type bannerstone, made of extremely rare calcite in my opinion.
COA describes it as quartz crystal, but in my experience I believe it is calcite,
almost clear but with a slight yellow tint.
As the calcite is transparent you can see the drilling of the holes which makes authenticity obvious.Highly polished smooth. The faces of the barrel are slightly flattened.
I have never seen a bannerstone made from this material, only a few birdstones and Hopewell items. Investment piece. Amazing bannerstone, worth several times more than I am asking.
Ex John Bishop collection. Found in Ohio. 4 1/2" long, 2 1/8" wide at widest,1" thick at barrel, wings 3/4" thick down to 1/4",
hole is 3/8" to 7/16" diameter.
Bannerstone Tom Shenk COA from 2014.
