WWI Folk Art Silk \" With the Colors\" & RPPC Named Sailor Portsmouth Naval Yard:
$145.72

Original Folk Art WW1 (WW One) silk embroidery and real photo of named sailor George H. McDonnell.

The piece has an embroidered title \"With The  Colors\" in reference to the \"Man in Service\" Flag embroidered next to the photo.

There is a address sticker affixed to the back of the piece showing the name of the sailor and an address in upstate NY (Town of Galway).

Above the address verso is the writing \"WW1 in training at Portsmouth N.H. Naval Yard \"

Below the address is \"Forest Ranger\".

The embroidery is naive folk art in nature and in great condition.

100 yrs plus later not a stitch seems out of place.

The embroidered pristinely white uniform on the sailor appears true to the WW1 U.S. Naval uniform depicted in the photo.

The photo has been placed inside a richly stitched gold frame with the flag staff and  the \"Man in Service\" flag embroidered  behind and to the left of the photo.

The figure has some ground stitched below it to ground it.

This wonderful piece is 8\" by 10\".

It has been removed from its frame (not by me) and the backing has significant edge wear and pin/nail holes.

The front linen background; the silk embroidery; and the photo are in excellent condition leading me to believe that this piece has spent most of its life behind glass.

Great piece of Americana; militaria; and folk art.

I have priced this in accordance with its presumed cross collecting  attraction.

If you think I have my head in the clouds, feel free to make me an offer.

Combined shipping available.

Thanks for looking.
