View Larger Image   North Bros. Yankee Spiral Ratchet Screwdriver No. 130A   Description: This is a very nice, clean 1940's era ratchet spiral screwdriver! It is marked "NORTH BROS. MFG. CO. YANKEE NO. 130A PHILA PA. PAT'D DEC. 11 23 MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", on the main nickel plated shaft. North Brothers offered unplated brass finishes, or black Japanned type finishes original from the factory throughout it's history, depending on the availability of the materials needed for the plating process, and how many parts we already in stock at the time of assembly. We have observed several polish brass finished screwdriver over the years, but few like this one with one part of the shaft nickel plated, and the smaller diameter shaft painted black over brass. As you can see in the pictures, the black paint is worn off almost completely, revealing the brass underneath it. This screwdriver is the mid-size that Stanley made in regards to tooling, or the tips that fit into the chuck, they are the .280 (9/32") shank diameter size. Stanley bought out North Brothers in the late 1940's, and tooling for these screwdrivers remained the same for Stanley production, as North Bros.. The chuck holds a variety of different slot Phillips type screwdriver tips, that we usually have in stock as an option. There is two slot bits, and one No. 1 Phillips bit included with this screwdriver. There is some wear noted on the screwdriver, a few scratches on the metal, some of the maroon stain and clear finish worn off, but about 80% intact, including the original "YANKEE" impression on the hardwood handle. In very good mechanical condition also. This one has a rapid return spring, on the spiral system, so it springs back after you push it in to drive a screw. We generally have hex head bit adapters and other tips, including drill adapters, in stock for this size screwdriver if you wanted to use it like a push drill as well.
