I purchased this in a Top Estate where the collector had mostly Japanese Netsuke and related with lots of early Asian Cloisonne. I just cannot give you any definitive history as to the original maker or origin. Do your research and judge accordingly.
It appears to have been purchased in the 1950-1960 era and all NESTED in a CUSTOM display PADDED CASE/BOX.
The HAND CARVED SCARAB BEETLE is a Chinese Type Scarab, that is absolutely ...almost LIKE HE IS ALIVE! The workmanship is fantastic & hand carved from a BLOCK OF SOAPSTONE.
The SCARAB BEETLE (there are 35,000 different species) in Chinese Folklore represents -- PROTECTION - GOOD FOURTUNE - REGENERATION and related. Ancient Egyptians suggested REBIRTH and was an ANCIENT SACRED SYMBOL.
Please do your research, in 60 plus years selling I have NEVER had one like this or even seen one! Do your research. In looking on the bottom ...there \"might\" be a number of sorts ... see the photo.... it was not real clear ..hand scribed. The box is unmarked.
