1794 White House Gavel – Original Timber – 1927 Reconstruction Provenance:
$2500.00

Up for sale is an incredibly rare, fully documented piece of American political history: a historic relic gavel crafted from original White House timber salvaged during the 1927 Calvin Coolidge roof renovation. Unlike the more common 1950s Truman-era souvenirs, 1927 Coolidge-era relics are considerably scarcer and highly sought after by advanced Americana collectors.
The Display (Included):The gavel and documentation are professionally housed in a custom, deep-set wooden shadow box frame. The interior features a premium, rich royal blue crushed velvet backing that beautifully contrasts against the wood tones of the gavel and the vintage patina of the paperwork. The document is professionally matted in a clean white border. This museum-quality display is completely ready to hang in a law office, study, or private library.
The Provenance (Included Documentation):This gavel includes its complete, matching 1928 provenance paperwork which provides an ironclad chain of custody.
* The Origin Receipt (Dated Dec 19, 1928): A contemporary photostatic document detailing the purchase of a 3\" x 4\" x 6\' timber beam removed directly from the White House attic during the 1927 reconstruction.* The Historical Significance: The paperwork explicitly certifies that this specific timber beam was placed in the original White House roof structure in 1794. This means the wood used to craft this gavel survived the British burning of Washington in 1814.* The Historic Signature: The receipt is officially signed by Lt. Col. U.S. Grant 3d, the Director of Public Buildings and Public Parks (and the grandson of Civil War General and 18th U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant).* The Presentation Note: Hand-signed by a member of the Federal Board for Vocational Education, who utilized Mr. Henry\'s authenticated 1794 timber to craft this presentation piece.
The Gavel Condition:The physical gavel perfectly matches the documentation. It features the beautiful, dense, tightly packed grain lines of late-18th-century old-growth longleaf pine. The wood shows beautiful natural coloration and lathe turning. It has been kept entirely original and uncleaned. Because this piece was distributed directly by the Federal Board alongside this extensive paper certificate, it does not feature (and never had) an inlaid metal plate—the paper itself serves as the absolute baseline proof of authenticity.
Shipping & Handling:Will be packed with extreme care using heavy-duty bubble wrap and a sturdy box to ensure the framed glass arrives safely. Shipped securely with full insurance and signature tracking required upon delivery. Please review all photos carefully. Feel free to reach out with any questions or serious offers.
