A nice example of mid-19th-century American weaving. This handwoven overshot coverlet features the iconic "Double Chariot Wheels" pattern in a deep, vibrant indigo-dyed wool. Despite its age, the indigo remains remarkably strong with no significant light fading.
It measures approximately 84 x 63 inches, making it a versatile large size for display or collection.
Construction Details:
Center Seam: Woven in two panels and hand-joined at the center, a hallmark of early 19th-century domestic loom production.
Border: Features a distinct decorative border edge that clearly identifies the "top" side of the textile.
