Rare original handwritten letter dated Boston, May 27, 1809, written and signed by William Sullivan (1774–1839), prominent Boston attorney and author, to Theodore Sedgwick Jr., Counsellor at Law, Albany, New York.
Sullivan writes that after many promises from Hamilton, he has obtained and enclosed a one hundred dollar bill, No. 1221, U.S. Branch Bank New York, dated September 15, 1808, noting that approximately $25 in interest remains due and will be remitted as soon as he can obtain it. A period annotation at the bottom reads: "This is on the Sherman note."
The reverse (outer wrapper/cover) bears the original postal markings, a red wax seal remnant, period docketing in another hand reading "William Sullivan / 27 May 1809 / Boston," and is addressed to Theodore Sedgwick Jr. Esq., Counsellor at Law, Albany, N.Y. with a handwritten postal rate of 34½.
Condition: Very good for age — light toning, old fold lines, small hole (period mail seal), no loss to text.
