An original handwritten apprenticeship indenture dated 1 January 1829, from the reign of King George IV.
This fascinating legal document records the apprenticeship of Joseph Pigg to William Brooke, Schoolmaster, for a term of seven years. The indenture sets out the obligations of the apprentice to faithfully serve his master while learning his profession, together with the master\'s duties to provide instruction and maintenance during the apprenticeship.
Written in a fine period hand on parchment, the document retains three original red wax seals and the original signatures of the parties and witnesses.
Apprenticeship indentures relating to schoolmasters are considerably less common than those for traditional trades, making this an appealing item for collectors of educational history, manuscripts, genealogy, and Georgian legal documents.
