1841 Antique Handwritten Legal Document Child Care Agreement Child Support Note For Sale

I Ichabod Ring of lawful age depose& say that in the spring of 1839 Iwas at the house of Jonathan Rawsonhe was keeping a child for Frederick ShattuckSome conversation was had about how longhe was going to keep the child, his wifeobserved in his presence that the time wasabout out, he said no he had agreed to keepthe child another year & then asked howhe come to owe Shattuck so much hesd. [said] he had some horses of him & he had pd [paid]that up & he owed him a note thatShattuck had of Elijah Clough & hehad agreed to keep the child to pay offthat note & was then keeping it forthat purpose I further say that Inever told Frederick Shattuck or his councilwhat I knew about this untill this daynor do I believe they knew of the sameuntill since the trial before the Auditorson Wednesday

I John Lamb of lawful age depose& say that I was at the premises ofJonathan Rawson in the field & got intoconversation with said Rawson about hiskeeping a child for Frederick Shattuck hesd [said] he had kept the child some time thatShattuck had a note or notes against himthat were given for a horse or horses, Shattuckhad got them pd [paid] up & that he owed Shattucka note which he gave to Elijah Clough& he was then keeping the child uponan agreement that the keeping was to applyupon the Clough note & that he shouldhave to keep the child about a year moreto pay up the Clough note & then heshould not keep it any longer. This con-versation was a year ago last fall & Ifurther say that I never told Frederick Shattuckor his council of this conversation untilthis day nor do I know that sd Shattuckor his council had any knowledge that Icould testify any thing concerning it beforethe trial before the Auditors.
