Smith and printed by Dutton & Wentworth, Boston, No.37 Congress St., 1852 Includes the order of exercises, toasts, and speeches/letters honoring George Washington and the Revolutionary legacy, an excellent snapshot of mid-19th-century political culture in the nation’s capital. Documents a formal Congressional commemoration of George Washington just before the Civil War decade, valuable for understanding public memory and political rhetoric of the era. Hincks & Smith, publishers of patriotic and historical pamphlets, reprinted the official account from DC for Northern New England circulation, first Boston printing. Provenance early owner signature front cover hand signed Isaiah Bangs (1786-1859), Boston merchant Bigelow & Bangs, 15 Long Wharf and Mount Auburn Cemetery trustee, likely an attendee at the banquet. Original softcover wrappers in excellent Fine condition, front and back cover and spine intact wrappers intact, no markings, no stains, no tears, no odor, no foxing, light toning if anything. Often printed in small numbers for attendees, scarce especially in this condition. 57 pages. 9 1/2 x 5 7/8 inches. Will ship in archival sleeve and board for ongoing preservation.
