Front cover panel is headed DEED and carries handwritten docketing naming grantors Andrew B. Marines and his wife and grantee Mary Catharine Pommer, wife of John H. Pommer.
Lower cover section features a preprinted receipt and recording statement beginning with the words 'Received September 1st 1869 and recorded in the Clerk's Office of Monmouth County, at Freehold in Book 247 of Deeds, page 637,' completed in ink with the clerk's name Thomas V. Arrowsmith and the imprint 'Printed and For Sale at THE DEMOCRAT Office, Freehold, N.J.'
Inside, a printed legal form headed 'This Indenture' is filled in with the date 'second day of March' 1869 and identifies the parties of the first and second part, the township of Howell in Monmouth County, and the consideration of Fifty Dollars in lawful money of the United States of America.
Subsequent sections contain a long handwritten metes-and-bounds description of the parcel, referencing an adjoining two-acre tract and survey lines in chains and links, and concluding with the phrase 'containing one half an Acre.'
