You are offerding on the exact 1876 Centennial International Exhibition bronze medal shown in the photos. This is an authentic piece of history!! This medal was issued for the United States Centennial Exposition held in Philadelphia in 1876, celebrating 100 years of American independence. This event is widely recognized as the first official World’s Fair held in the United States, making items from this exposition highly collectible pieces of early American history.
The obverse features a seated figure of Liberty extending a wreath, surrounded by symbols of industry and progress. The reverse reads “International Exhibition, Philadelphia, MDCCCLXXVI” and “Awarded by United States Centennial Commission.”
This example is signed “Henry Mitchell S.C.” beneath the figure, referring to the U.S. Mint engraver who created the design.
There is some light, cosmetic wear including surface scratches, edge wear, and age-related patina, as shown in the photos. The medal shows honest wear from age and handling and has not been cleaned by us for fear of devaluing it.
Centennial Exposition medals like this were produced to commemorate the first World’s Fair held in the United States and remain collectible pieces of early American history.
