Original 1877 Capias (arrest warrant) issued by The State of Mississippi – Clay County, commanding the sheriff to arrest Warren Collins to answer an indictment for murder.
This Reconstruction-era court document contains the period language “take the body,” directing law enforcement to seize and safely keep the accused until brought before the Circuit Court in West Point, Mississippi. The charge of murder is clearly handwritten on the face of the document.
The warrant is signed by court officials and bears an original embossed seal, with period ink, typography, and handwriting intact. A powerful and unsettling piece of 19th-century Southern criminal justice history.
