This original 1879 antique folding trade card measures approximately 3 x 4 inches when folded and was issued by JOHN S. TRIPP, JR., an importing tailor located at No. 75 Weybosset Street, providence ri. Printed on tan stock, the piece opens to reveal a finely detailed engraved “Autumn, 1879” title page with ornamental border and scenic vignette, followed by interior advertising text promoting imported London overcoatings, suitings, and trouserings.
The interior text references single-pattern goods, foreign woolens, and first-class garment production at low prices—typical language of high-end Victorian tailoring. The card also credits CHAS. D. BROWNING and F. L. DANFORTH (cutters), adding further period trade detail. A circular monogram device appears on the inside cover, enhancing the visual appeal.
