1886 American Heraldry Plates- 17 Color Plates of American Coats of Arms.

A collection of 17 individual plates from the series “America Heraldica: A Compilation of Coats of Arms, Crests and Mottoes of Prominent American Families Settled in this Country Before 1800”, published in 1886–1887 by E.V. de Vermont (Edgar de Valcourt-Vermont) and illustrated by Henry Rykers. The series was a significant 19th-century resource for American genealogy and heraldry. It documented the European heraldic traditions carried over by American families prior to 1800, highlighting the connection between American elite families and their Old World ancestors. It was published during a period of rising interest in ancestry and lineage among American families in the late 19th century. It is noted as a standard reference, though it exists within a context where 19th-century interest in heraldry was sometimes criticized for vanity or "forgeries" to establish "nouveaux riches" status.

Sixteen coats of arms are shown on 15 of the plates, 2 plates show 9 coats of arms.

Seventeen single sheets, each measuring 11.5”x14.5”. Minor soil, several of the plates have light water “tide marks” along one side.
