The production dates from 1897. George Alexander appears as Nigil Stanyon, with a notable cast including W. H. Vernon, Fred Terry, H. B. Irving, H. V. Esmond, George Shelton, H. Ives, Carlotta Addison, Fay Davis, Winifred Dolan and Julia Neilson.
H. B. Irving\'s performance in The Tree of Knowledge became an important early success in his London stage career. The programme is also notable for bringing together Fred Terry and Julia Neilson, one of the best-known theatrical couples of the period.
The attractive colour cover is headed St. James\'s Theatre, King Street, St James\'s, with George Alexander named as sole lessee and manager.
CONDITION
Original antique programme in good overall condition for its age, with age toning, light foxing/spotting, marks, creasing and general handling wear. There is minor edge and corner wear and some light surface marking. A small handwritten number appears at the lower left of the cover.
