1897 Victorian REDWORK EMBROIDERY Linen Bed Pillow Cover Sleeping Beauty For Sale

Victorian or Edwardian embroidered linen with a quote from an 1840 poem "I slept and dreamed that life was beauty." With the image of a dreaming beauty, her book, a cherub or fairy, and poppy flowers. This is a decorative bed cover that lays on top of a pillow. It measures 33"x27" not including the lace border. A similarimage with quote on linen was sold as a stamped pillow sham in the 1897 Sears Roebuck catalog, but the font was clunkier. Either Sears Roebuck sold an updated version for the Edwardian era, or the embroiderer freehanded that lovely cursive. The talent of the embroiderer and the variegated pink thread are what make this piece exceptional.
