1907 USS Chicago Souvenir Silk Handkerchief For Sale

This rare silk handkerchief commemorates the USS Chicago's setting of the world's record for 8 inch guns on May 15, 1907. It is cream colored with black printing and is made of very fine silk. It measures approximately 7.25x7.25 inchesThe USS Chicagowas launched December 5, 1885 and commissioned on April 17, 1889. It was a famous early steel navy ship that served actively through the 1906 San Francisco earthquake relief and into the 20th century, serving until 1935.On May 15, 1907, the vessel was actively steaming north along the Pacific coastline headed to San Diego. having served as diplomatic venue and refugee safe haven for Honduran President Manuel Bonilla during the Nicaragua–Honduras War. Following the signing of the peace treaty on April 23, the ship wrapped up operations in the area.It is currently stored in an archival sleeve.See condition notes for flaws.
