1908 Swedish IOGT Good Templars Membership Certificate Temperance Framed Antique For Sale

Original 1908 Swedish I.O.G.T. / Good Templars District Lodge Membership CertificateAn attractive early-20th-century Swedish fraternal and temperance movement document issued to Paul Pettersson on October 11, 1908.The certificate is headed “Distriktloge-Medlemskort,” meaning approximately District Lodge Membership Card/Certificate, and bears the seal of Sveriges Storloge / I.O.G.T., the Swedish Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Good Templars.The printed Swedish text describes the organization’s goals as the eradication of intoxicating liquor and the brotherhood of mankind, with the motto:“Tro, Hopp och Kärlek” — Faith, Hope and Love.The I.O.G.T. was an international temperance/fraternal organization with an established Swedish Grand Lodge by the late 19th century. Swedish archival collections preserve district-lodge records from this period, and the Litografiska Museet catalogs surviving Swedish IOGT diplomas as historical printed ephemera. Printed at bottom “Oskar Eklund boktr.” Oskar Eklund’s printing operation is documented as a printer of Swedish Good Templar publications. Presented under glass in an older wood frame with decorative brass-tone floral corner mounts and black surround.Condition: The original paper shows expected age toning, scattered foxing/spotting and old fold lines. Writing and printed decoration remain quite legible. The frame shows normal age/use. The paper backing on the reverse is heavily aged, torn and deteriorated.
