Original 1909 first edition of The Artillery of Nathan Bedford Forrest's Cavalry:
"The Wizard of the Saddle" by John Watson Morton, Chief of Artillery.
Published in Nashville, Tennessee and Dallas, Texas by the Publishing House of
the M.E. Church, South, Smith & Lamar, Agents.
Hardcover in the original burgundy/maroon cloth with gilt lettering. 374 pages
with portrait frontispiece and additional historical illustrations.
An important early Civil War history written by John Watson Morton, who served
as Chief of Artillery with Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry. The volume covers
numerous campaigns and engagements involving Forrest's cavalry and artillery.
Condition is good for its age. Covers show expected rubbing, corner wear and
some spotting/discoloration. Pages show normal age toning. Interior pages and
illustrations shown present well. There is visible weakness/separation at the
inner gutter/hinge near the rear of the book, and this has been photographed
for disclosure.
No signatures or inscriptions were observed in the pages photographed.
A desirable original 1909 first edition rather than one of the later modern
reprints.
