Offered is an original handwritten medical lecture notebook belonging to Lena Lamade, believed to date to 1912.
The notebook contains approximately 130 pages of neatly handwritten lecture notes covering bacteriology, microbiology, public health, obstetrics, pregnancy, infant care, anesthesia, first aid, shock treatment, wound care, hygiene, and disease prevention. The material closely follows the curriculum commonly taught in American hospital nursing schools during the early twentieth century. Topics such as bacteriology, obstetrics, infant nursing, anesthesia, and surgical care were standard components of nursing education in this period.
While the exact school has not been identified, the notebook appears to have been written during formal lectures, with individual sections titled by subject and an instructor’s name noted at the beginning of at least one section. Based on the content and organization, it is believed this was created as part of a structured nursing or medical training program around 1912.
