Wonderful vintage Stecher Halloween advertising postcard, featuring a young girl in green lying beside a large carved jack-o’-lantern with a black cat at her side. A small pumpkin-headed ghost appears in the background, giving the card several classic and highly collectible Halloween motifs in one scene.
The reverse features an advertisement for Billy Moran, The Tailor, 43 N. Eleventh Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, promoting fall and winter suits and overcoats and noting “300 New Styles.” Card is marked Series 1290 B and Made in U.S.A.
Postally used in 1932 and addressed to a recipient aboard the USS Holland, U.S. Navy, care of Postmaster. The card bears a San Diego, California postmark and postal cancellation, adding an interesting naval and postal-history connection.
A particularly appealing example with multiple collector angles, including Stecher artwork, Halloween imagery, black cat, jack-o’-lantern, ghost, vintage advertising, U.S. Navy history, and 1930s postal history.
