Original 1913 oversized panoramic real-photo postcard documenting the United States Army mobilization at Texas City and Galveston, Texas.
This unusual composite photographic postcard contains two major panoramic military views.
The upper image is captioned:
“Regiment from Texas City Visiting Galveston”
and bears a 1913 copyright credit to M. Blandford.
The large lower panorama depicts the enormous tent encampment at Texas City and is identified directly in the image as the:
“Mobilisation Camp
2nd Division (Less 5th Brigade)
Major General W. H. Carter Commanding
Texas City, Tex.
1913”
The photograph also carries a Medley & Blandford photographic credit.
This camp was established during the 1913 U.S. military mobilization prompted by instability associated with the Mexican Revolution. Major General William H. Carter commanded the 2nd Division at Texas City. The Library of Congress preserves other original panoramic photographs of this same mobilization by Medley & Blandford.
Reverse has an original NOKO photographic postcard back and is unused/unposted.
