The remarkable scene includes rows of uniformed soldiers carrying brass instruments including trombones, horns and a large bass instrument, with additional troops following behind. Tents and an early automobile are visible in the background, giving the photograph excellent period military-camp context.
The handwritten inscription on the reverse appears to read:
“Oct. 8, 1918. Galveston Texas / having fun Fort Crockett for / Brigade review.”
A particularly nice WWI-era image combining military history, marching-band history, Galveston/Texas history and Fort Crockett provenance.
