1920 Winchester Internal Memo on Rifle Models 90 & 06 – Gun Production Dept:
$300.00

Original 1920 internal memorandum from the Gun Division of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, dated August 5, 1920.

This historically significant factory document addresses serious concerns over the lack of completed component drawings for Winchester Models 90 and 06 rifles. Written by H. A. Brown, Gun Production Superintendent, the memo outlines how engineers had worked intermittently on these drawings but never completed them, leaving Winchester without reliable reference material for many older firearm models.

Brown warns that some older models were already considered unreliable and stresses that the absence of accurate drawings “may lead to trouble.” He formally urges that a responsible party be assigned to complete proper component figures comparable to those used for newer models, and requests clarification on company policy regarding older firearm documentation.

This is a rare example of internal Winchester manufacturing correspondence, offering insight into early 20th-century firearms production, quality control, and engineering standards. The document was never intended for public distribution.
