1921 Press Photo View Model of Pioneer Aviator Otto Lilienthal at Berlin Museum For Sale

1921 Vintage Press Photo by Wide World Photos.Otto Lilienthal, an inventor and pioneer in aviation, met his death perfecting one of his machines in 1896 (or just 25 years ago).
His first idea of a flying machine was to have the wings shaped like those of a bat. Having placed the apparatus around his body, he jumped off a hill and let the machine glide through the air to the ground below. It was in one of these leaps that he was killed.
As a tribute to his inventive genius, a model of Lilienthal and his first machine has been placed in a prominent position in the Berlin Museum.Karl Wilhelm Otto Lilienthal was a German pioneer of aviation who became known as the \"flying man\". He was the first person to make well-documented, repeated, successful flights with gliders, therefore making the idea of heavier-than-air aircraft a reality.
