Archive lot of two original Soviet photographs from 1929, connected with the mining district of Bakal in the Southern Urals and railway correspondence from Chelyabinsk.
The first photograph is an impressive industrial view showing a mine / mining works in a mountainous winter landscape. A railway line enters the workings, with several small mine or industrial railway cars visible on the track. Extensive wooden trestles, elevated structures and other mining infrastructure can be seen throughout the site.
The second photograph presents a broad panoramic view of a settlement surrounded by hills and mountains.
The two photographs have strong original provenance because the panoramic photograph was actually sent through the Soviet postal system in 1929.

The card bears two original Soviet postage stamps and a clearly dated Chelyabinsk postal cancellation of September 20, 1929.
The correspondence was sent from Chelyabinsk and contains personal news, greetings and references to hunting and local life.
Especially interesting is a handwritten postscript in which the sender states that he will soon send the recipient an “отпечаток рудников” — a photograph / print of the mines.
This provides an interesting possible connection with the accompanying industrial photograph showing the mine and railway workings. The two photographs were preserved together, and the mining photograph may be the print referred to in the 1929 correspondence, although this attribution cannot be confirmed with certainty.
