1930s Chinese Cloisonné Desk Set Curly Grass Letter Holder Pen Cup For Sale

An elegant two-piece vintage Chinese cloisonné desk set featuring an unusually sophisticated black, gold and turquoise palette.The set consists of a two-tier letter holder and coordinating cylindrical pen or pencil cup. Both pieces are decorated with intricate gilt-wire floral designs against a dense field of tiny scrolling spirals, bordered by warm gilt-brass edges.Particularly striking is the contrast between the nearly black exterior and the vivid turquoise blue counter-enamel visible on the underside and interior of the pen cup.The letter rack provides two graduated sections for correspondence, papers or stationery, while the coordinating cup can hold pens and pencils.The pieces are unmarked. Based on construction, cloisonné technique and comparable documented desk sets, this set is attributed to China and dates to approximately the early-20th century.Origin: China
