Wonderful original family photograph album containing 46 black-and-white photographs dating approximately from 1935–1940.
The photographs primarily document life in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, California, and include candid family and friendship scenes, outdoor portraits, period fashions, neighborhood views, pets, snow scenes, and several young men in pre-WWII United States Marine Corps uniforms. A number of the subjects are identified by handwritten first names, preserving valuable historical context.
The album belonged to Marguerite Buck, daughter of photographer George Buck, and has remained within the family through direct descent.
All 46 photographs are original period prints and remain glued or mounted to their original album pages. The photographs vary in size and include both snapshot prints and larger portraits. The distinctive cord-bound wooden album features pyrography decoration, applied “Arizona” lettering, and a colorful cactus-and-sombrero motif.
The album and photographs show age-related wear, including page discoloration, mounting residue, empty spaces where some photographs were previously removed, surface marks, edge wear, and other evidence of age and family use.
