1931 MISS ESTONIA : LILLI SILBERG : RPPC A.N. PARIS ST. MANO : TALLINN ESTONIA For Sale

Offered here is an attractive original 1931 real photo postcard featuring Lilly Silberg, Miss Estonia 1931, identified on the card in French as “Miss Esthonie.” Silberg was selected as Estonia\'s national beauty queen in January 1931 and represented her country at the Miss Europe competition held in Paris shortly afterward. She later remained in Paris and worked as a fashion model, including work associated with prominent Paris fashion houses. The postcard presents a particularly appealing close-up studio portrait of Silberg, with her carefully waved early-1930s hairstyle and classic glamour-photography presentation. At the lower left of the photograph is the printed designation “7B,” apparently the photograph or series number. At lower right is the credit “St. Mano.” St. Mano was the photographic studio responsible for the portrait. Armand Noyer was the publisher of this postcard. Noyer was a major Paris photographic and postcard publishing operation active during the first half of the 20th century. Noyer issued an enormous range of photographic postcards, including celebrities, film personalities, glamour subjects, sporting figures, aviation subjects and other topical series. This postcard was mailed in Estonia. The reverse bears a very bold circular TALLINN / EESTI postmark together with a strong multiple-wavy-line killer cancellation running directly across the stamp. The date within the Tallinn cancel reads 1931. The red-orange stamp is an Estonian 5-senti postage stamp bearing the three heraldic lions of Estonia. It belongs to Estonia\'s 1928 Coat of Arms definitive issue. Some of that cancellation ink or offset is visible through/on the upper-right portion of the picture side. The message reads approximately: “Dear young daughter! I wish you happy and beautiful spring holidays! Anni From Tallinn, April 8, 1931.” I would describe the card as in fair to good vintage condition. The portrait retains very nice contrast and excellent eye appeal. There is light general edge and corner wear and minor surface marks/scuffs, particularly in the upper-right portion of the photograph. The strong postal cancellation has produced noticeable ink show-through or offset in that same upper-right area. The reverse shows normal postal use, handwriting, and light age-related discoloration and handling wear. Importantly, the original Estonian 5-senti stamp remains intact, together with the exceptionally strong Tallinn killer cancellation (see scans).
